February 8 of 2015 was a historical day for the national team of Ivory Coast as they defeated Ghana in the finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in a dramatic penalty session that saw all of the players of both teams taking the set-piece as they attempted to help their respective nations in sealing the piece of silverware which is awarded to a national team every 2 years.
Ivory Coast was the team that emerged victorious from the penalty shoot-out but surprisingly enough, they kicked it off by missing their 2 initial kicks as Wilfried Bony and TalloGadji were the first players of Ivory Coast to take the penalties and both missed.
Even with these 2 misses, Ivory Coast still came out on top with the win as the team of HerveRenard was crowned as the champions of Africa as they secured a trophy that they had not won in over 20 years.
After the African tournament was over and Ivory Coast were crowned as the champions, rumors began to spread which linked HerveRenard to the Egyptian national side but the coach of Ivory Coast confirmed that everything was indeed just that, it were only rumors but nothing was actually true as he has no intentions of leaving his managerial position of Ivory Coast.
“Officials of the Ivorian Football Association want me to continue with them, and I have the same desire to stay and complete my contract, especially since am leading the continent’s strongest team, having achieved their first African Cup of Nations title in 23 years,” HerveRenard told the public as he denied any connections or rumors involving him with a possible move to Egypt.
The manager of Ivory Coast, HerveRenard will not be leaving the national side anytime soon but there is however someone who played a huge role in the African Cup of Nations winning team that is going to retire as Boubacar Barry announced his retirement from playing international football.
Boubacar Barry was a key figure for Ivory Coast as the 35 year old shot-stopper saved a penalty in the finals as well as also managed to score a goal of his own during the penalty shoot-out.
