The former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has said that he will be doing everything he can to help Ivory Coast reach the finals of the African cup of nations that will be held in January.
The 34-year-old striker is currently playing with the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, but there have been rumours that the player could be released from his contract due to the inability of the club to pay his astronomical wages. The former Chelsea striker, though, assured the Ivory Coast fans that he will be staying in Asia and keeping himself fit with a view of helping Ivory Coast qualified for the 2013 African cup of nations.
It has been an indifferent year for Didier Drogba because he missed the crucial penalty for Ivory Coast in the 2012 African cup of nations final. This current Ivory Coast squad has been as one of the best in Africa due to the presence of many high profile players, but they have not been able to lift the coveted African cup of nations title. However, Drogba then went on to lift the Champions League with Chelsea by scoring in the crucial penalty. He has since signed for the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua and has started the season well with them.
“For the Africa Cup of Nations 2013, I will do everything in order to remain competitive while in China. Don’t worry. My start has generated good and bad reviews but I’ve always taken on my choices,” said Didier Drogba after the match against Senegal. Didier Drogba scored the crucial penalty in the 4-2 win over Senegal. The match was tied 2-2 at the point when Ivory Coast received a penalty. Drogba made no mistake from the spot, while Max Gradel increased the advantage to give Ivory Coast a comfortable victory in the match.
